“Preparing students for an emerging digital world is imperative. They need to learn how to engage with technology in a way that empowers them to make balanced and informed decisions.” Allison Hostetler, director of pre-professional programs at SAE International WARRENDALE, Pa. (PRWEB) May 11, 2021

SAE International announced today the Navigating the Digital Universe program, a new way for educators and parents to teach children about their rights and responsibilities as digital citizens. This new computer science STEM curriculum, developed through SAE International’s A World In Motion® (AWIM) program in partnership with d’Vinci Interactive, provides students with essential guidance for how to be kind, protect their private information and create a healthy balance between their online and offline worlds.

“Preparing students for an emerging digital world is imperative. They need to learn how to engage with technology in a way that empowers them to make balanced and informed decisions,” said Allison Hostetler, director of pre-professional programs at SAE International. “Developing savvy online users is the best way to foster a generation of safe, smart and empathetic digital citizens.”

The new interactive, character-driven curriculum creates an emotional connection between young learners and content – providing compelling learning opportunities while dramatically improving knowledge retention. Through blended hands-on and digital activities, elementary students learn how to engage with technology and the digital world in a positive, responsible way. With the help of a trusted robot named Maze, students explore five planets to learn the importance of digital safety, communication, literacy and ethics.

Aligned with national education standards, the flexible program can be implemented in virtual, hybrid or in-person classrooms. To aid in delivery, educators have access to a comprehensive curriculum as well as supporting PowerPoints – all available via a user-friendly online portal. Students have access to printable and interactive AWIM Notebooks to record their questions, ideas, observations and reflections.

The resounding feedback received from educators highlighted how combining engaging activities and relevant content helps students make connections and apply the core concepts in their real life. Teachers are already discovering that AWIM’s Navigating the Digital Universe helps bridge a critical gap in education. Some teachers have noted that this unit will help minimize the risks students come across when using the internet every day by teaching them how to navigate it safely and intelligently.

By addressing why these skills matter, AWIM’s Navigating the Digital Universe is also resonating with students, making meaningful and lasting learning connections. Teachers also shared that it was amazing how many students mentioned that their mood has been influenced by technology and that it taught them to have more self-control and inspired them to take a break from their devices more often.
